Below is an abbreviated list of some of Patrick’s writings on strategy, narrative, leadership and movement building. As noted many of them were co-written with colleagues at  the smartMeme Strategy and Training Project which became the Center for Story-based Strategy in 2013.

Story-based Strategies for Direct Action Design                                              This article from 2008 applies the story-based strategy framework to planning creative actions and mobilizations.

De-Colonizing the Revolutionary Imagination (downloadable pdf)             This 10-part essay covers a wide range of strategy ideas many of which were later developed into specific tools and methodologies by the smartMeme Strategy & Training Project. First distributed as a zine it was republished in a number of publications including the  2004 anthology Globalize Liberation: How to Uproot the System and Make a Better World edited by David Solnit (City Lights Press 2004)

Information Warfare in Miami (downloadable pdf)                                             This article is one of a series written by Patrick and his colleagues in the smartMeme collective analyzing mass action strategy that reports on the 2003 protests against the Free Trade Area of the Americas meeting in Miami.

The San Francisco Uprising (downloadable pdf)                                                 This article explores the strategy and interventions of the San Francisco based mobilization Direct Action to Stop the War which organized the mass shut down of the San Francisco financial district in response to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

smartMeme: Tools & Strategies for Building an Earth Centered Movement (downloadable pdf) This is the original smartMeme publication, compiling the collective’s movement strategy articles which were previously published in the Earth First! Journal in 2002. It was produced to accompany workshops conducted by the smartMeme collective at the 2003 National Conference on Organized Resistance in Washington D.C.
